Deliverables

Many school districts are exploring Grow Your Own options for their school districts, and others understand the benefits however are not sure how to get started. Grow your Own: Assistance and Support provides training, consulting and actual documents to help you plan your program and get started in its implementation. Know what pitfalls to avoid, understand the journey so that your program is built for sustainability and have help from someone who has first-hand experience in developing a successful Grow Your Own program.

Background

More than 60 percent of America’s teachers work within 20 miles of where they went to high school (The Grow Your Own Imperative by Dan Brown, Educational Leadership, summer 2016). Perhaps this is at the heart of why so many school districts across the nation have embraced the idea of recruiting their own students, support staff and community members to teach in their schools. Often, people in our own communities have dreams of teaching but lack the knowledge about how to get certified, the financial resources to go to college or the encouragement from other educators. It is a comforting notion that the support can come from educators in your own communities.

Dr. Patty Corum has over 20 years of educational leadership and human resources experience, and led the development of a Grow Your Own program in a large school district. She and her team can help you develop a program that will help meet your recruitment and retention needs.
