Feedback and Coaching Lab

Practice. Implement. Reflect.

FEEDBACK AND COACHING LAB

Deliverables

Feedback and Coaching training is delivered in a lab setting in real time, in your school with your own teachers and administrators. Because it provides meaningful learning and actual hands-on practice of observing instruction and giving feedback to teachers, participants gain a true understanding of the protocol and benefits it offers. After each Coaching Lab, administrators and teacher leaders walk away with skills to “know what they see” when observing classroom instruction. In addition, participants learn and are able to use effective strategies to provide meaningful and specific feedback to teachers. Because Coaching Lab is heavily engaged with practice, participants can immediately use what they learn.

Background

Patty Corum, LLC will work with school administrators to tailor Coaching Lab and training for your needs. We look at your current observation and feedback practices, evaluation methods and culture, and determine the best approach to getting started. Facilitators have been trained in The Artisan Teacher by Mike Rutherford, and resources come from Rutherford Learning Group.

Logistics

Coaching Lab is designed to take place in schools, while students are in session. Administrators and teacher leaders learn strategies in skillful observation and then actually observe in-person classroom instruction. Then, participants practice giving feedback to teachers using those skills and protocol. To learn all of Mike Rutherford’s 7 Feedback and Coaching Tools, districts or charter schools typically engage every 6-8 weeks for a two-year period. Ongoing development, on campus with your team provides a good opportunity for practice, continued collaboration about the work, accountability and sustainability. Labs are typically 3 hours in length, and can hold up to 15 participants per session.
